Descriptions of future financial anxiety and financial divides had been prevalent in responses to this survey question on higher education. Says Kazunari Fujii, Director of the Soka Gakkai International UN Liaison Office in Geneva: HRE 2020 remains strongly committed to these efforts as we aim to bring greater awareness of human rights education commitments inside civil society, governments, treaty bodies and other stakeholders”. We have no decision to do that due to the fact the text books are no longer the sole resource for the teacher.

HRE USA coordinated numerous civil society consultations to assess the government’s implementation of recommendations from the 1st cycle and determine policy suggestions to improve HRE within the college curriculum, teacher instruction and the college atmosphere. Considering that the UPR was established in 2006, there have been over 1,400 recommendations to about 70 distinct nations on implementing human rights education and instruction.

The most frequent suggestions incorporate: awareness-raising campaigns on violence against girls/children’s rights/discrimination adoption of a national program of action coaching for law enforcement officials human rights education in schools and teacher education. To learn a lot more about human rights education in the UPR, see the meeting notes of the recent HRE 2020 Members Meeting.

In the course of the meeting, HRE 2020 members took stock of recommendations that have been made so far in the first and second cycle of the UPR and discussed national initiatives to monitor and report current suggestions. HRE 2020 member Human Rights Educators USA, together with the US Human Rights Network, successfully submitted the 1st national civil society report on human rights education to the Office of the UN Higher Commissioner for Human Rights on 12 September 2014.

This document is a status report on policies and practices in human rights education in US schools, primarily based on data the network collected from an on-line survey and stakeholder meetings that took spot in San Francisco, New York City and Boston throughout the summer season of 2014. The UPR takes spot every single 4½ years and is an chance to review the status of implementation of human rights education and instruction at the national level.
